So often I hear from people that their creative juices have dried up. They aren’t finding joy in photography anymore. I too went through a bit of that a few years ago prior to shooting for the book cover industry. Soon after I started shooting stock for book covers, some mutual friends, who are also in the same industry, and I set out to challenge ourselves each week with a different theme. It forces us to think of new ideas and gets us shooting. I can honestly say that it keeps my love of photography alive and keeps me enthused.
Not only do I shoot images based on a theme, but I also challenge my past students with an image each week based on a concept. It’s been great seeing the images they create and again, keeps them enthused. So set a goal to shoot one photo each week with a specific theme in mind. Here are some of my theme images and how they have been used.
