Course Outline:

Lesson 1: Introduction-Fundamentals of Flash Photography
Basic flash techniques, understanding relationships between shutter speed-f/stop, and the effects on flash, understanding TTL, auto and manual settings, and Sync Speed. What are Guide numbers? What is the Angle of Incidence, and the Inverse Square Law and a first look at just how ridiculously simple flash can be while delivering results that will have everyone assuming you�ve turned pro!

Lesson 2: Using Flash on Camera and Off Camera
Introduction to techniques of on-camera flash including flash fill, flash key, bounce flash, and diffused flash and adjusting flash output. We’ll look at techniques for using flash off-camera including rear curtain effects, key and fill, diffusers, soft-boxes, wireless flash, and using remote flash, aka Commander Mode.

Lesson 3: Exciting and Challenging off Camera Flash Exposures
The not so difficult mathematical formulas for those sometimes challenging flash exposures. Mixing flash with ambient/natural light and/or ‘killing’ the ambient/natural light.

Lesson 4: Thinking Outside the Box with Flash
Using gels, shooting action, dragging the shutter, (e)motion-filled flash images.

Course Requirement:
Digital camera, external flash, that can also be fired with a TTL Cord and/or wireless Flash ability, a full understanding of f/stops and shutter speeds when shooting in ambient/natural light-(graduates of our available light course, Understanding Exposure, are ideally suited for this course!) And finally, please read your flash manual thoroughly prior to class-(Charlie and I both know that much of your electronic flash manual makes NO sense, but it will still help you to read the manual before class.)
